The craftsmanship of the glassblower who, with one deft movement, turns a lump of molten glass into a household object or a work of art is sharply contrasted with the uniform and mechanical way in which items are formed in a commercial glass factory. There, shapeless lumps of glass fly around like bullets on an automated roller coaster and emerge as milk or beer bottles in neat rows. People are not involved until a machine breaks down. Once things have been sorted out, it starts its robot-like action again. Finally the contrast between craftsman and machine is accentuated by a rhythmic sequence of images.
