The sixth edition of the International Festival ‘Almería en corto’ (May, 15th to 26th) has broken its record of displayed short films: 663 tapes coming from the five continents. They participate in two different contests within the Festival: cinema one, which is international; and video one, which is national.
“Participation is increasing year by year. This is a symptom of the reputation ‘Almería en corto’ has got”, director of the Festival Oscar de Julian said. This year there is a great amount of Argentine works, perhaps –De Julián believed- because of the victory of Argentine tape ‘Medianeras’ last year.
The average age of the film-makers who has displayed short films in 2007 is about 30-35 years. Most of them have already worked in production companies and have a large background. They will know if they have been selected or not next 5th April.
‘Almería en corto’ will give out 64.500 euros in awards. Radio Televisión de Andalucía could emit the best shorts and will edit DVD of free distribution.
